Consumer Price Index in Spain soars to record 7.4% in February
Rise attributed to widespread increases in cost of food, fuel and electricity
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Spain continues its upward trend, soaring to a record 7.4% in February.
That marks an increase of 1.4 percentage points compared to January, when the year-on-year rate was 6%.
The figures come from data released on Monday by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), which attributes the rise to a general increase in prices, especially in food and drinks, fuel and electricity.
The underlying rate of inflation, which doesn't include energy or unprocessed food products, also continues to rise, reaching 3.0% in February, up from 2.4% in January.
