Congress visitors spend 30% more in Catalonia compared to 2019
Tour operators' summit in Girona aimed at attracting new events
Each visitor to Catalonia who came for a congress or business event spent an average of €1,368 in the territory during their stay, 32% more than the average paid in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
This was explained by director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, Narcís Ferrer, who also celebrated that this profile of visitor has a high purchasing power and that they visit Catalonia outside the peak summer season, spreading tourism throughout the full year.
Ferrer also detailed that this type of tourism generates new job opportunities because it involves many different sectors, and in many cases ends up having an impact on the local economy.
The comments were made at the Meet Catalunya Green event, organized by the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board in Girona.
The forum is an event for professionals in the tourism sector specializing in business travel, congresses, and conventions.
The aim of the meeting is to position Catalonia at an international level to attract new events.
A total of 75 operators are participating in Meet Catalunya Green, coming from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Brazil, South Korea, Denmark, France, Finland, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Poland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden and Chile.
87 Catalan companies and entities are also participating, with some 1,500 business meetings being held throughout the duration the forum.
