Catalonia to expand fast-charging network for electric vehicles
Some 126 charging points will be available to drivers by the end of the year
Catalonia will add 39 new fast-charging points to its network of charging stations for electric vehicles by the end of 2017. This will raise the number of fast-charging points available to the public on Catalonia’s main roads to 126, compared to 19 in early 2016.
According to the Catalan government, the amount of electric vehicle usage is directly linked to the number of fast-charging points available to drivers, which is why expanding the network is seen as a priority. In order to be considered “fast”, a charging point should provide than 45Kw of power. After a 20-minute full charge, a typical vehicle can then run for 120 km without having to refuel.
“Catalonia is in a really good position regarding electric mobility and for achieving the new energy model we are aiming for,” said Assumpta Ferran, the Catalan Institute of Energy (ICAEN) director. Ferran last week presented the balance of the Strategic Plan for the Development of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in Catalonia 2016-2019.
