Catalonia breaks export record for seventh consecutive year
Catalan sales abroad rose to €70bn in 2017, an 8.7% yearly increase

Catalan exports went up to 70.8 billion euros in 2017, a record-breaking figure for the seventh consecutive year. According to figures from Spain’s Ministry of Economy, Catalonia’s sales abroad continue to grow, last year seeing an 8.7% increase over 2016.
The chemical industry was the sector with the most foreign sales, accounting for 18.1 billion euros, a 7% increase over 2016. Capital goods came second at 12.4 billion euros, a 7% yearly increase. In third position came the car industry, whose sales grew 5.8% compared with the previous year, amounting to 10.9 billion euros.
It was also a record year in 2017 for Imports. It is the fourth consecutive year with record-breaking figures. In total, Catalonia bought goods worth 84.3 billion euros, an 8.3% increase over 2016.
