Young Catalans have to dedicate more than the entirety of their salary to pay the rent of their house, according to a new study carried out by real estate platform pisos.com

The study shows that to rent a full house the average price has increased up to €1,190.70, according to data from July.

This number surpasses the average salary of the younger population by €140, who have an average net income of €1,050.77 according to the data provided by the Youth Emancipation Observatory.

The report published by pisos.com warns that the current wages "do not correspond to the housing prices" and foresees that housing prices "will continue to rise, and it does not seem like it will stop soon."

This situation can be seen in other areas of Spain.

In the Balearic Islands (€1,615.35), Madrid (€1,556.34) and the Canary Islands (€1,149.3), the youngest have to destine more than their complete salary to pay rent.

On the other hand, the autonomous communities with more affordable rent are La Rioja (€390.99), Castilla y León (€453.60), and Extremadura (€462.60).

In all of Spain, the average rent for a 90 square meter flat is €1,062.90, which is €12 more than the average salary.
