More than 21.5 million people stayed in hotels in Catalonia last year, 350,000 more than in 2023
Hotels in Catalonia welcomed 21.5 million people in 2024, the best year since 1999, when Spain's National Institute of Statistics began recording the figures.
Last year, 350,000 more visitors were registered than in 2023.
It also surpasses – by 800,000 people – the number of guests in 2019, a record year before the pandemic outbreak.
Last year's figures also show a strong increase in overnight stays in Catalan hotels, reaching 60.6 million nights, almost two million more than in 2023 and 1.5 times higher than in 2019.
Prices also increased this year with an average daily rate in December increasing by 3.45% to €114.39 per night.
December 2024 was the busiest December on record, with 1,150,000 travelers and 2.5 million overnights.
Barcelona, Madrid and tourist hotspot Sant Bartolomé de Tirajana in the Canary Islands were the places with the most overnight stays last year.
Catalonia was the second most popular destination for Spanish visitors in 2024, behind Andalusia, and the third top destination for foreigners.
