Catalan exports hit record high in July with 9.4% growth
Despite July's bump, total exports for 2024 are down 3.3% year-on-year to €59.6 billion
Catalan exports increased by 9.4% in July compared to the same month last year, according to the Ministry of Industry, setting a new record for July.
Catalonia exported goods worth €9.2 billion, beating the previous record set in July last year.
However, despite this increase, total exports for the year fell by 3.3% year-on-year to €59.6 billion.
July's year-on-year growth contrasts sharply with June, when exports fell by 10.3%.
By sector, the chemical industry saw the strongest growth, with an annual increase of 15%, followed by food, beverages and tobacco, which grew by 14%.
By region, Lleida led the growth with an increase of 22%, followed by Girona (11%), Tarragona (10%) and Barcelona (8%).
Similarly, in Spain as a whole, July marked a new historic high, exceeding €33 billion, while total exports for the first seven months fell by 0.9% to reach €228 billion.
