Catalan exports grow 8.3% in October to reach €8.5bn
Spanish exports as a whole fall by 2.4% to €32.3bn
Catalan exports were up 8.3% year-on-year in October, reaching €8.57 billion, Spain's Ministry of Industry Commerce and Tourism reported on Monday.
The sectors with the highest exports were once again chemical products, with €2.45 billion, up 8.8%; capital goods, with €1.34 billion, down 1%; and food, beverages and tobacco, with €1.29 billion, up 9.7%.
Compared to pre-pandemic figures, exports are up 21.4% on October 2019.
Spanish exports as a whole fell by 2.4% compared to October 2022, to €32.28 billion.
Catalonia accounts for quarter of Spain's total
In total, Catalan exports represent 26.5% of Spain's total, making it by some distance the Autonomous Community with the highest exports. Madrid is second with 12.1% of the Spanish total.
Within Catalonia, exports rose by 6.1% in the Barcelona region, to €6.52 billion. In Girona, they rose 7.8% to €728.2 million. In Lleida, exports rose 18.9% to €272.2 million and in Tarragona they rose 20.9% to €1.04 billion.
For the year to date, from January to October, exports totaled €85 billion, a 9.7% increase compared to the first ten months of the last year.
