Catalan exports figures take a hit in August
Sales of goods abroad down 7.3%, lowest level since early 2022
Catalan exports fell by 7.3% during August compared to the same period of the previous year.
This marked the lowest figure for sales of goods abroad since the beginning of 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
Catalonia exported goods worth €6.432 billion during the month, the lowest figure since January 2022, when exports worth €6.323 billion were sold.
Looking at August data alone, it is the lowest total since 2021, when goods worth €5.468 billion were exported.
Last August saw the record high for the month, with €6.941 billion cooped from sales to other countries.
The year-on-year drop in sales in August contrasts with the data for June, when they rose by 9.4%.
The capital goods sector saw 4.7% fewer exports, reaching a total value of €1.038 billion.
On the other hand, sales of food, beverages and tobacco grew by 4.6%, up to €1.269 billion, while chemical products also increased 3.6% compared to last August, up to €1.939 billion.
Spain as a whole saw a 2.5% increase in foreign sales, exceeding €26.8 billion.
