CaixaBank president to step down
Vice-president Tomàs Muniesa will replace José Ignacio Goirigolzarri
The president of CaixaBank, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, plans to present his voluntary resignation to the bank's board of directors on Wednesday.
He will be replaced by Tomàs Muniesa, vice-president of the entity.
Goirigolzarri has led the financial institution since CaixaBank absorbed Bankia in March 2021.
The change in leadership will take effect on January 1, 2025, at which time the bank's presidency will not have executive functions.
Gonzalo Gortázar will remain as CEO, a position he has held since 2014, and will chair the Management Committee.
Caixabank formally notified the National Securities Market Commission of the replacement on Wednesday.
The board of directors highlighted Goirigolzarri's "fundamental contribution to Bankia's exemplary and successful integration process" and assessed his management as "enormously positive."
CaixaBank will present its third quarter results on Thursday.
