Bosch workers protest plans for Castellet i la Gornal plant closure
Demonstration held ahead of negotiations with company on Monday as employees at two nearby factories could share same fate
Days after German company Bosch announced its decision to close its production plant in the town of Castellet i la Gornal, an hour south of Barcelona, workers held a demonstration in the nearby town of Vilafranca del Penedès to show their commitment to "fight together" to keep the site open.
Talks between the company, which makes windshield wiper motors for a number of carmakers at its Alt Penedès county plant, and employees are due to start on Monday.
Bosch currently employs some 300 people in Castellet i la Gornal – a figure that stood at 1,200 20 years ago.
This comes as 122 workers at a Saint-Gobain plant that makes car glass in the nearby town of Arboç and 95 people at an Alfisa plant that makes car parts in Santa Margarida i els Monjos, also in Alt Penedès county, could soon be affected by similar plans to close.
