The city of Barcelona ended last year with 61,875 active commercial premises on the ground floor, a 5% increase compared to 2022, according to a study by the city council.
City councilor for commerce, Raquel Gil, believes the data "highlights the dynamism of the city" and positions Barcelona as a city "with a lot of commercial activity in its neighborhoods and a diverse and resilient offering."
By sector, 33,740 premises were counted as dedicated to services, a 5.42% increase from 2022; 21,167 were retail units, a 2.01% increase; and 6,968 were classified under other uses such as administrative, industrial, or other facilities, a 13.21% increase.
The commercial occupancy rate, which evaluates the proportion of active premises compared to the total number of premises, stands at 90.9%, more than two points higher than in 2022.
The district with the greatest improvement in this area is Ciutat Vella (91.2%), where the rate has increased by 10 points, surpassing the city average.
The measure has improved in all city districts.
