Barcelona airport surpasses record of passengers in July 

New international routes introduced during the summer, like San Francisco, Miami and Seoul

The Barcelona airport saw 5.38 million passengers in July, a 9% increase from the same month in 2023, according to figures released on Wednesday by Aena, the Spanish airport management company. 

Since the beginning of the year, Catalonia's biggest airport has registered 31.47 million passengers, which represents a 12.2% increase from the same period last year

Of the more than 5 million registered in July, 4 million passengers were of international flights, which represents an 11% increase.  

These figures show that Barcelona's airport has recovered the offer that the infrastructure had in 2019 before the pandemic.  

During this summer, new routes have been introduced like United Airlines' one to San Francisco, Level's to Miami, Air Premia's to Seoul, Ryanair's to Tanger and Air Arabia's to Rabat. 

In addition, some other routes have been recovered, such as Saudia's to Rydah, Cathay Pacific's to Hong Kong and the frequency of Air Canada's route to Mont-real has been increased. 

In these seven months of 2024 there have been 199,752 flights, a 10.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.  

Girona's airport has also increased the number of passengers in July to 286,686, 0.7% more compared to the same period last year.  

Since the beginning of the year, Girona airport has seen more than one million passengers. 

Another one of the airports in Catalonia, the Reus airport, has almost reached 200,000 passengers in July, a total of 199,467, which represents a 13.7% increase.  

In all of 2024, the airport in southern-Catalonia has seen 662,930, that is 16.5% more travellers than in the same period last year.
