Barcelona airport sees record 42 million passengers in first nine months of the year
September saw more than five million people use Catalan capital's airport
Barcelona airport has closed the first nine months of the year with 41,949,945 passengers, 11.5% more than between January and September 2023 - a new historical record for this period.
During the month of September, the airport registered 5,061,870 passengers, an increase of 10.3% in relation to the same month in 2023.
Of these, 3,785,127 traveled on international flights, which is 12.3% more than during the same month in 2023. There were 1,267,449 passengers coming to Barcelona on internal flights, which represents a 4.5% more than in September last year.
Since the beginning of the year, a total number of 41,878,007 passengers have traveled on commercial flights to or from the Catalan capital's airport, which represents 11.5% more than the first three quarters of last year.
Of these, the number of international travelers has been 31,072,358, which represents an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year. As for domestic passengers, in the first nine months of 2024 10,805,649 have passed through the airport, 4.8% more than in the same dates of 2023.
September also saw 31,683 flight operations land and depart from Barcelona airport, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same month in 2023. For the year to date, there have been 263,555 operations in the facility, 10.4% more than the same months of 2023.
Regarding cargo, 14,714 tons of goods were transported last month, 9% more than in September 2023. Between January and September, 134,769 tons were registered, 17.8% more than last year.
