Almost 700,000 registered foreign workers in Catalonia
Spanish ministry calls figures "historically high"
The number of foreign workers registered with social security in Catalonia increased by 5.31% in July compared to the same month last year, reaching a total of 695,867.
According to the data on Wednesday by Spain's Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the number of foreign workers in Catalonia is up by 35,109 workers compared to a year ago.
Of these new workers who have come in the last year, 75% are concentrated in Barcelona province.
Compared with June, the number is up by 0.93%, up to 6,397 people.
In Spain as a whole, the number is up by 13.5% compared to last year, reaching a total of 2,806,557; "historically high" figures, according to the ministry.
The vast majority of foreign workers are from outside of the European Union, with Moroccan, Colombian, and Chinese being the most numerous nationalities.
Among the remaining 28% of EU citizens, Italy, Romania, France are the most common nationalities working here.
