Almost 2.4 million tourists travel to Catalonia during July
Number of international visitors surpasses pandemic figures
Tourism has fully recovered in Catalonia, with 2,384,535 international tourists visiting in July—around 3.7% more than last year and 0.67% more than in 2019, according to data released by the Spanish Statistics Institute (INE).
During the seventh month of the year, Catalonia was Spain's second most visited destination, just behind the Balearic Islands.
Since January, Catalonia has welcomed around 11.5 million tourists, 10.5% more than during the same period in 2023. If tourism continues on this path, the region will break a historic record for the year, as Catalonia has so far received 178,000 more visitors than in 2019.
However, July fell short of an all-time high, as around 2.55 million people traveled to the territory in 2017.
On average, visitors spent €220 per day, €1 less than in 2023 but €21 more than in 2019. International visitors spent around €3.12 billion, 2.1% more than the previous year.
Spain received around 10.9 million international tourists during July, 7.3% more than last year. So far this year, almost 53.4 million people from other parts of the world have traveled to the country.
Most of them were UK travelers (2.05 million), followed by French nationals (1.6 million). Compared to 2023, there has been an increase in visitors from the Netherlands (16.5%), the United States (11.3%), and Belgium (10.2%).
