Advanced Factories congress aims to make Barcelona ‘reference’ for Industry 4.0

Event will be held in Catalan capital from March 13 to 15

The congress Advanced Factories 2018 aims to put Barcelona on the map as a “reference” in the so-called fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0. This is one of the latest trends in automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. A true sign of the times, it includes cloud computing, cognitive computing, and the Internet of Things. The even promises to be a tech-head’s dream.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the general director of Advanced Factories, Albert Planas, explained that they hope 11,000 attendees will come to the event, the second year it has taken place. Last year, a total of 9,700 people came to delve into the world of Industry 4.0.

Advanced Factories will feature more than 200 exhibitors and 300 brands from 25 different nationalities. It will also  hold the largest congress in Europe on advanced and digital industry, according to its website.

Advanced technologies

Some of the main themes of this year’s edition will be new production processes, such as 3D printing, robotics, artificial intelligence, and blockchain (used in the trading of cryptocurrencies.)

This year’s invited country is Germany, considered to be at the forefront of industry 4.0 innovations. “We have important support from the German Chamber of Commerce in Spain and the participation of leading companies from there such as Volkswagen and BASF,” Planas explained.

Advanced Factories will be held from March 13 to 15 at the International Convention Centre in Barcelona.
