More than 53 million tonnes of goods passed through the port of Barcelona between January and September of this year, an increase of 11.3% year-on-year.

Standing out in the latest figures released by the port of Barcelona on Firday is the increase in container traffic, which is up 21.4% to reach almost three million TEU.

The number of cruise passengers also increased in this period by 6%, up to 2.8 million, with double-digit increases for those starting or ending their journey in Barcelona, and a decrease in transit passengers.

Liquid bulks maintain the good results of previous months, with 10.5 million tonnes moved between January and September.

There has been huge increases in the amount of gasoline moved through the Catalan capital's port, up by 66.4%, while movement of chemical products is up 105.1%.

Intermodal Transport Units rose by 2.6%, up to 328,918 trucks and trailers.

New cars, which stood for 509,255 total units, have continued to fall (-13.8%), reflecting the situation also seen across the European vehicle market.

Regarding the number of passengers, 4,317,304 passed through the Port during the first nine months of the year, 4.2% more than the previous year.

Ferries have added 4.1 million passengers, up 1.1%, while those on tourist cruises have increased by 6%.

Traffic with the main markets of the Port of Barcelona is growing in both imports and exports.
