Obama, Springsteen, and Spielberg dine in Barcelona ahead of Boss' concert
Chef Rafa Zafra welcomed American personalities to Amar restaurant in El Palace Hotel
Chef Rafa Zafra's Amar Barcelona restaurant, located in the regal El Palace Hotel in the Catalan capital's classy Eixample neighborhood, is no stranger to celebrities.
But Thursday night it welcomed perhaps some of the most globally renowned personalities: former US president Barack Obama, rock musician Bruce Springsteen, and filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
"Dreams do come true," Zafra wrote on his personal Instagram account. "How wonderful to be able to cook for these three geniuses."
Zafra also thanked fellow chef José Andrés "for being our ambassador." The Spanish celebrity chef who resides in the United States is said to have recommended the high-end seafood restaurant for Obama, Springsteen, and Spielberg's late-night meal.
Obama-Springsteen friendship
It was first reported this Monday by El País and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency that the Obamas would be in Barcelona to attend the Springsteen concert on Friday.
Springsteen publicly endorsed the politician in 2008, campaigned for his reelection four years later, and co-wrote 'Renegades: Born in the USA' with him.
The Obamas' security detail includes members of the Mossos d'Esquadra police force.
Two Springsteen concerts in Barcelona
Friday is the first of the Boss' two concerts in Barcelona, the only ones he will be playing in Spain. It is also his first stop on the European leg of his tour. Springsteen will be accompanied by The E Street Band.
On Monday there were already dozens of fans lining up outside the Olympic Stadium in the hopes of securing a good spot to view the show.
The last time Springsteen came to the Catalan capital, he performed at Camp Nou, the FC Barcelona football stadium. The American singer will now be playing at what will be the team's temporary field as Camp Nou undergoes renovation works.
