The southern city of Tarragona has been celebrating during the whole weekend the first Festival Teta event. The new proposal focuses on feminism further than just on March 8, International’s Women Day.

The new celebration was held in the Camp de Mart area with dozens of associations taking part in the proposal. This has been the first LGBTIQ+ and feminist festival in Tarragona.

The proposal is based on three different main pillars such as visibility, participation, and sorority. For the occasion, organizers have scheduled several debates, artworks, monologues, and concerts.

One of the main problems attendees experienced was the high heat on Saturday and Sunday. Organizers, therefore, are considering planning future editions in other places or at another time of the year to avoid the heat.

"We could probably change the time of the event, doing them in the afternoon, when people are freer," Montse García, head of Tarragona’s equality policies unit, said to the Catalan News Agency (ACN). "We could have a two-afternoon event, instead of a full day on Saturday and a morning on Sunday," she added wondering about the different possibilities ahead.

One of the things for sure organizers have is that the event will return next year. "There are entities and women that we need to make visible, as they are experts in so many fields," García explained.

The plan is to start working earlier in the year, such as in September or October, instead of three months before the event takes place, as in this year’s case.

A longer timeframe to work will allow them to "find out topics that are interesting to all of us," García pointed out.

Some of the debates they scheduled on Saturday, were also interesting for people on Sunday. Such as maternity and the work environment. But also in the medical field.

"We spoke a lot about the consequences that there are no specific studies for women, as a lot of the experiments done use male animals," Laura Recasens, a collaborator of the Festival Teta, said to ACN.
