Rambla de Catalunya, one of the main avenues of the Eixample district of Barcelona, will see renovation works done on its two sidewalks during the month of May.

The renovation works will mainly take place over two weekends, May 4-5 and 25-26, while on May 19 and 20 the paving of the intersections will be done.

The renewal of the asphalt will lead to traffic restrictions on those weekends, although neighbors and services will still be able to pass.

Barcelona councilor for urbanism, Laia Bonet, explains to the Catalan News Agency that the objective is to renew the pathways "before there are incidents due to deterioration."

According to Bonet, Rambla de Catalunya has not been comprehensively renovated since 2009, although there have been some works done in that time.

The renovation of the pavement is part of the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan, which foresees the renewal around 600,000 m2 of asphalt by 2028, backed by a budget of €28.9 million, in order to avoid incidents and the deterioration of public space across the city.
