The former president of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, has died in Barcelona just days after his daughter filed a complaint with Catalan police for alleged attempted murder.

Living in the Catalan capital since 2019, Dos Santos was put in an induced coma in the Teknon medical center in the city around two weeks ago before eventually passing away on Friday. He was 79 years old.

Tchizé dos Santos, the daughter of the former head of the Angolan state, had already denounced the alleged plot to end her father’s life in the newspaper La Vanguardia last week. Advised by lawyers, she filed a complaint with the Mossos d’Esquadra on Monday asking for the police to investigate the alleged commissioning of the killing of the former Angolan president.

She also asked authorities to investigate whether there has been an omission of duty of care, severe reckless injury, or illegal disclosure of secrets.

The family suspect that the doctor assigned to him by the African country gradually reduced his health to the point of coma.

José Eduardo dos Santos ruled Angola from 1979 to 2017.
