There will be Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) trains connecting the Catalan capital and Sabadell and Terrassa every 5 minutes and to Sant Cugat every 2.5 minutes during rush hour from December 9.

The Catalan government-operated railway company will be expanding service on the line with 15 new trains, which will be able to provide 110 million journeys annually, up from the current 80 million.

This means there will be twice as many trains between Barcelona and Sabadell and Terrassa, while there will be a 37% increase between the Catalan capital and the UAB university campus in Bellaterra. There will also be 22% more to Sant Cugat and 20% more to Rubí.

The new trains will be 196-seaters with USB charging outlets and spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, bicycles, and strollers.

Describing the Barcelona-Vallès line as "the first real metropolitan area metro line," Catalan government spokesperson Patrícia Plaja, who announced the changes during Tuesday's weekly press conference, said expanding the service was a "necessary and ambitious" step.

Barcelona-Vallès line changes

From December 9,  S1 Terrassa, S2 Sabadell, L6 Sarrià, L7 Avinguda Tibidabo and L12 Reina Elisenda will all be running on the Barcelona-Vallès line.

S6 Universitat Autònoma and S7 Rubí will end in Sabadell and Terrassa as part of the S1 and S2, which will stop at all stations. This means the S1 and S2 will cover all the stops S5, S6 and S7 currently do.
