The Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, will call for elections in Parliament early in the afternoon. Puigdemont will make the statement, without allowing journalist’s questions, at the Catalan government’s building, the Palace of the Generalitat. After today’s meeting with government ministers and the lawmakers of JxSí, the Catalan president has decided to call for elections, after much debate as to whether independence would be declared.

Before the imminent call for elections, ERC and PDeCAT have summoned their executives’ bodies at noon. According to some sources, the Basque Lehendakari Íñigo Urkullu has mediated in the political conflict between the Catalan and Spanish governments.
