Berlin (ACN).- Catalan music took to the stage all across Germany this Thursday. Diverse singers, musicians and directors from Catalonia performed in the German cities of Leipzig, Hamburg, Cologne and Weimar. The tenor singer Josep Carreras hosts a gala every year for his foundation to fight leukaemia. This year, the singer teamed up with Andrea Bocelli and David Garret in Leipzig to raise funds for his foundation, the Josep Carreras Foundation. The gala hosts classical and modern music from international artists to raise money and awareness about the fight against leukaemia.

Another of Catalonia’s great opera singers, the soprano singer Montserrat Caballé, also performed this Thursday in Hamburg. The artist performed songs to celebrate 50 years of playing in Germany, a country that has been very receptive of her work.

At the ‘Philharmonie’ in Cologne, Jordi Savall directed his ensemble the ‘Le Concert des Nations’, with a programme based on the music of French Barroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. The concert included choreographies by the Hamburg Ballet.

In Weimar, director Joan Pagès directed a Christmas concert for the 'Musikgymnasium Belvedere' school of music’s orchestra. The secondary school is comprised of students who specialise in music. The group has a tour planned in Catalonia in April of 2011.
