Barcelona (ACN).- According to data from the database coordinator of a human tower group in Tarragona more than 8,217 ‘castells’ or Catalan human towers were built in 2011, an all time record. Despite the growth in constructions, the percentage of failed attempts is quite similar to last year. Just 3.5% of the total number of ‘castells’ collapsed. This new data makes reference to the human towers during public events and does not include rehearsals, and only refers to those of six or more floors four or more pillars.

In 2010 the number of ‘castells’ raised was 6,726 so the 2011 figures show a huge increase in the human towers groups’ activities. Newcomers, the re-emergence of long-established groups and more public performances are the three keys to these new figures.
