Madrid (ACN).- Prices have increased in August by 0.3% in relation to July. The inflation rate of the last 12 months in Catalonia is now at 2.1%. The tendency changes as prices in July had dropped by 0.3% in relation to June, however this was due to July’s sales. This data has been released by the Spanish Statistics Institute. The reason for this moderate increase can be found in tourist sector prices such as hotels, restaurants, bars and organised trips. Catalonia is the Spanish autonomous community with the highest inflation rate, but it is still close to the recommendation of 2% issued by the European Central Bank.

For the whole of Spain, prices have increased in August by 0.3% in relation to July, the same rate as Catalonia. However, the inflation rate for overall Spain is 1.8%, 3 decimals lower than that of Catalonia.

In terms of provinces, Girona continues to have the highest yearly inflation rate of the entire Spanish state with 2.3%. The increase for August was also 0.3%. For Barcelona, the yearly rate is 2.2%, in Lleida 1.9% and in Tarragona 1.7%.
