Barcelona sees an increase of 4.02% in exports by sea

Valencia and Barcelona have continued to lead exports by sea in Spain during the first six months of 2013. For the same period of last year, Barcelona exported 5,180,000 tonnes, while in 2013 the figure increased to 5,380,000 tonnes, which represents an increase of 4.02%. However, Valencia has experienced a slight reduction. During the first six months of 2012, 6,236,000 tonnes were exported by sea from the city, while for 2013 this figure was 6,214,000 – a 0.36% decrease.

Barcelona (ACN).- It has been announced that Barcelona and Valencia still lead exports by sea in Spain according to figures from the first half of 2013. Barcelona has witnessed an increase in the amount of exports by 4.02% for the first six months of 2013. The city exported 5,180,000 tonnes of goods by sea, while in 2013 this figure had risen to 5,380,000. Meanwhile, Valencia experienced a slight decrease in export levels. Between January and June of 2012, Valencia exported 6,236,000, while for 2013 this figure was 6,214,000 – representing a 0.36% reduction.

 


The port of Tarragona (located in southern Catalonia) exported the 7th highest amount in Spain with 2,085,000 – an increase of 2.82% compared to 2012 when it was 2,028,000. In the whole of Spain exports by sea increased from 37,514,000 tonnes in the first half of 2012 to 41,172,000 in the same period of 2013 – an increase of 9.78%.

In Spain, 20,300,000 tonnes of exports by sea were general cargo, which represents an increase of 2.4% on the first six months of 2012. Liquid products were up by 21.8% to 12,500,000 tonnes and solid products increased by 11.3% to 8,300,000. This highlights the increase in the export of steel products, cement, chemicals, and other production materials. The main destination countries are: Algeria, Italy, Brazil and the United States. 60.5% of sea exports had a destination within the Mediterranean.
