Almost half of Catalans say there are 'too many tourists' where they live
Catalans have most negative view of tourists in Europe according to YouGov survey
48% of Catalans say they feel there are "too many tourists" in the area where they live, according to a YouGov survey published by 'The Guardian'.
In all of Spain, 32% hold this belief, making it the country that holds this belief the strongest, according to the survey taken in Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Denmark.
Furthermore, Catalonia is the European territory with the most negative view of tourists, as almost half of the respondents complain about the excess of visitors.
The majority of respondents in these countries are in favor of limiting the number of tourists who can access popular cities or destinations and banning the construction of new hotels.
Respondents also have less support for measures that are already in place, such as tourist taxes, or the ban on renting residential properties.
"More than a third of Spaniards (37%) consider that the holiday rental sector brings more harm than good, and 45% say that they have a negative view of it," The Guardian reports.
