Record 4,000 athletes expected to take part in the Mediterranean Games 2018

Sporting event held in Tarragona region will bring 150,000 spectators, according to organizers

With the Mediterranean Games just over a month away, expectations are high for this year’s event, and it could even beat a record for the number of athletes participating in this kind of sporting competition.

The president of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, Amar Addadi, is looking to the future with confident optimism. “This final phase of preparations is a great time of excitement,” he said. “We are sure that the Games of Tarragona 2018 will be a great success.”

On Wednesday, the draw of the four team competitions at the event was held: football, handball, volleyball, and water polo.

With  a month and a half to go until the first day, Addadi stated that organizer s have no need to worry.

Testing mettle

“Everything is ready,” he said. According to present registrations, it is possible that the Mediterranean Games held in Tarragona, south Catalonia, could break the current record of participation. As it stands, 4,000 athletes are expected to take part.

The Games will be held from June 22 to July 1 in 16 municipalities located in the Tarragona region. The 4,000 athletes of 26 different nationalities will be testing their mettle before  1,000 judges  and international representatives, 1,000 journalists, and 150,000 spectators, according to the organizing committee. There will also be 3,500 volunteers offering their time to help the event run smoothly. Tickets are expected to go on sale next week.
