A 62-year-old French man suffered a heart attack in the Terminal 2 car park of Barcelona airport on Monday and later died at Hospital Bellvitge.

The death happened on the same day as the demonstration convened by the protest group Democratic Tsunami, in response to the Supreme Court’s sentence in the Catalan Trial

Sources from the French embassy in Spain consulted by the Catalan News Agency have disconnected the two facts, explaining that the man suffered a heart attack while reaching for his boarding pass

Meanwhile, emergency services explained that the man was treated by one of the ambulances at the airport, which brought the patient to a stable condition. Later, they moved to the Hospital Bellvitge, where he passed away.

The emergency services first treated the patient with the help of the airport staff. In fact, the patient was transferred via a helicopter.

While the embassy distanced the man’s death and the protest, the French-owned radio station Europe1 reported that the man suffered a heart attack while trying to walk 3km to the airport after traffic surrounding the site was brought to a standstill.
