The unionist party Ciutadans has put forward a propsal to carry out a vote on whether Palrliament speaker Roger Torrent should remain in his post. This came after Inés Arrimadas, the party’s leader, called Torrent asking him to resign.

They wish to replace him with a new parliament  speaker who “can and wants to perform his duties properly.” Arrimadas also criticized Torrent for the "arbitrary" way in which he makes decisions, such as "taking three weeks" to set a date for the plenary session.

In a text released on Monday, the party also urges for an end to Torrent’s “partisan use of the Parliament,” believing it creates “division in Catalan society.” Ciutadans also highlighted its committment to “recovering institutional normality.”

Ciutadans’ statement also calls for a future government that works with “full respect for the statutory and constitutional legality to the benefit of all Catalans,” saying that all citizens “without exception” are equal before the law.
