Deposed Catalan president Carles Puigdemont called all political parties in Catalonia to “explicitly” embrace non-violence in the run-up to the December 21 election. On Wednesday, after meeting in Brussels with members of the pacifist platform ‘En Peu de Pau’ (Catalan for ‘On a Peace Footing’), Puigdemont committed himself to promoting a “culture of non-violence, citizenship and empowering the people.”

During the meeting, which was also attended by the four dismissed ministers who are currently in Belgium, both politicians and activists underlined the importance of sharing non-violence as a fundamental political principle, leaving ideologies aside.
