Salou (ACN).- PortAventura will be launching new attraction ‘Angkor: Adventure in the Lost Kingdom’ this year to coincide with the start of the 2014 season in early April. The new attraction will allow visitors to embark on a 300 meter boat trip through the Asian jungle, designed to simulate the historic Cambodian temple: Angkor Wat. The attraction is located in the China area of the park, near Shambhala, Europe´s highest rollercoaster. The new attraction is a replicate of the temple, which is said to be the largest religious structure in the world. It occupies a space of 10,500 square meters in the resort and visitors can also embark on a tour of the temple, lasting approximately 10 minutes.

According to PortAventura, visitors board boats that are equipped with water guns and give them the chance to explore a replication of the dangers that are faced in the Cambodian temple. Along the way, they will discover different areas full of surprises and interactive challenges: mysterious villages, snakes emerging from the water or tigers hiding in caves and monkeys that live in the magnificent temples of stone elephants. Armed with their water guns, adventurers shoot the targets that are presented and can also shoot other boats and even to viewers located outside of the attraction.

The project is inspired by the legends and the aura of mystery around the Cambodian World Heritage Site. According to the theme park, Angkor is one of the most important boat ride attractions in Europe. The attraction was designed by MACK Rides, a leading manufacturer of fair attractions in the world who also own Europa Park in Germany. There are 14 boats which can hold 8 people each and a total capacity for 726 people.

Meanwhile, the park will host Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Kooza’ show during the summer months. This is forecasted attract around 2,400 daily spectators and PortAventura will be the first European resort to welcome the circus company.
