With the prize for emerging design going to the firm of upcoming designer Maria Fontanellas - along with 15,000 euros - and the best collection award for jewelry designer Elena Estaun, the 20th edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion week closed on Friday.

During the five days of the fashion event attendees could see a broad variety of fashion catwalks and visit showrooms for the 2018 spring-summer season. Some 37 young as well as established designers from Catalonia presented their collections and brands to the public and international buyers in one of Barcelona’s most iconic buildings, the art-nouveau Sant Pau Hospital. Miquel Suay and Antonio Miró as well as emerging designers Colmillo de Morsa and AMT also participated in the event.

In a parallel venue to the Sant Pau Hospital Pavilion, the 4th edition of Barcelona Fashion Showroom took place, the 080 Investor Day, the International Forum for Investment in the Fashion Industry and Textilmeeting by Textor 2017.

This fair brought more than 30 national and international buyers and 27 Catalan brands together in more than 400 meetings. According to the Ministry of Business and Knowledge, the latest editions of the fair have generated more than 10 million euros in sales.

The Catalan Fashion Cluster, Modacc hopes the 080 Showroom can become an independent event in the future. The Modacc Best Collection Award to Exporting Brands went to Torras.

Jordi Baiget, Minister for Business and Knowledge as well as the president of Modacc, Francesc Maristany, highlighted the growing export and internationalization of Catalan fashion brands, making Catalonia a fashion landmark on the global fashion scene.

Another highlight of 080 Barcelona Fashion was the award ceremony for the Fashion Tribute Prize, which was given to the designer Àngela Missoni.

With this prize the Catalan government recognizes the firm’s values as a family company and its capacity for renewal and adaptation to the new times. The award was given by the business and knowledge minister to Margherita Maccapani Missoni, guest of honor of this edition who was standing in for her mother.

The next edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion week will be held in January 2018.
