Barcelona’s center of contemporary culture, or CCCB, has revealed its new exhibition season, which will focus on exploring reality through imaginary worlds. Thus in May, the center launches the exhibition, ‘La llum negra’ (The Black Light), which analyzes the influence that secret traditions, such as mysticism or esotericism, have had on art since the 1950s. Another highlight of the new season will be the arrival of the travelling exhibition, Stanley Kubrick, which reviews the American filmmaker’s career.

CCCB head Vicenç Villatoro calls the line-up for 2018 “ambitious” and “compact” and says the new season is conceived as a “meeting point” between present-day concerns and different ways of talking about them. Thus, among the issues that the center's upcoming activities will deal with are the terror attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils in August, the Catalan political process, the European crisis and climate change. Among the personalities expected to visit this year is Nobel literature prizewinner, Orhan Pamuk.

Yet, one of the most highly anticipated events at the center this year will be the aforementioned Kubrick exhibition. Running from October 18 until March 31, 2019, among the issues it deals with are artificial intelligence and nuclear armament. The exhibition arrives as part of a tour of the world’s major cities, although it will be adapted to the center's aims. 'La llum negra’ will run from May 15 until October 21, and will use artworks to show how a large part of contemporary art can only be fully understood in light of esoteric influences.
