Catalan author Jaume Cabré publishes a new novel after 'Les veus del Pamano'
‘Jo confesso’ (‘I confess’) is the new novel by Catalan author Jaume Cabré (Barcelona, 1947). Seven years after publishing ‘Les veus del Pamano’, which sold more than 100,000 copies in Catalan, 450,000 in German and has sold well in a further eleven languages, the writer returns with a novel about love, lack of affection, guilt and evil.
Barcelona (ACN).- \u2018Jo confesso\u2019 (I confess) is the new novel by Catalan author Jaume Cabré (Barcelona, 1947). Cabré is the author of \u2018Les veus del Pamano\u2019, which has not been published in English yet (\u2018Die Stimmen des Flusses\u2019 in German or \u2018Les Voix du Pamano\u2019, in French). \u2018Les veus del Pamano\u2019 sold more than 100,000 copies in Catalan, 450,000 in German and has sold well in a further eleven languages. This September, the writer returns with a novel about love, lack of affection, guilt and evil. The novel is about to be available on bookshops at the beginning of September. After the success of \u2018Les veus del Pamano\u2019, Cabré\u2019s latest novel will also be translated into the main European languages.
With \u2018Jo confesso\u2019 the reader will travel from the Eixample, in the centre of Barcelona, to the Congo, and from the 20th century back to the 18th. It is the long confession of Adrià Ardèvol, the highly-gifted son of a bourgeois but loveless family from Barcelona. Adrià has a distant relationship with his father, a mysterious antique dealer, and with his mother, who does not understand him.
Jaume Cabré is one of the most prestigious and translated writers of contemporary Catalan literature. He made a huge impact on the literary scene with \u2018Les veus del Pamano\u2019 (2004), which followed \u2018Senyoria\u2019 (Honour) (1991), \u2018L\u2019ombra de l\u2019eunuc\u2019 (The Eunuch\u2019s Shadow) (1996) or the compilation of short stories \u2018Winter Journey\u2019 (2000).
