Tourists have spent 1266 million euros in Catalonia during the month of June

Visitors from the United Kingdom were the highest contributors in June, spending 1229 million. Germans follow, with a total expenditure of 900 million euros while French tourists, with 514 million euros, increased their cumulative expenditure by a surprising 16.4%

Madrid (ACN) – Tourists have spent 1266 million during June, a 13.5% increase over the same month last year according to the Tourism Expenditure Survey (Egatur), produced by the Institute for Tourism Studies, a department of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. The Balearic Islands, took 1378 million euros, being the first autonomous community in terms of tourism spending. Catalonia is the region which experienced the greatest increase in tourist spending: 3.2 points above the Spanish average. The Spanish average expenditure by tourists rose by 10.3%.


The average expenditure by tourists in Catalonia stands at 900 euros, 4.2% more than in June 2010 and lower than the Spanish average, at 943 euros. Tourist have spent a total of 4.810 million euros during the whole year, an increase of 7.8%. The average expenditure per tourist in the first half of the year has been 799 euros. Catalonia is once again ranked as the second community in terms of tourist spending when considering the whole year, this time behind the Canary Islands, where the total revenue is 4925 million.

Throughout the state, during the month of June tourists have spent 5397 million, 10.3% more than the same month last year, while the volume of spending since January was 22,450 million, representing an increase of 8.6% over the first six months of last year.
