On Sunday the first flight organized by the tour operator, Quality Travel, landed at the Lleida-Alguaire airport from Sweden, in order to bring skiers to the slopes of Andorra. Winter holidaymakers left Stockholm in the morning and transferred at the Swedish city of Jönköping. 101 passengers were on board.

According to the owner of Quality Travel, Ulf Östmark, the company predicts that it will bring around 2,500 people to the airport up until March 25, flying from 6 cities in the Nordic country, including Stockholm and Gothenburg.

Until now, the airport had mostly been used by British people in order to get to the pistes of the Andorran Pyrenees.

In good hands

Östmark also said that the Lleida-Alguaire airport was chosen because of its proximity with Andorra. “One of the advantages,” he said, “is the transit time, which is less than other aiports.” He also commended airport staff. “With them we feel safe, we believe they will treat our customers very well,” he added.

Östmark did acknowledge, however, that the only thing that worries him is the fog causing some flights to be diverted, as happened with some planes coming from the United Kingdom earlier in the season.

The company is also considering the Catalan ski resort of Baqueira as a destination for the next season. This will be good business for them, as in 2018 a total of 20,000 overnight stays in hotels is forecast.

“This winter, 100% of our clients will be staying in Andorra. But we are open to start operating in Baqueira too. It's a question of whether ski resorts or hotels are interested in hosting Swedish people,” Östmark stated. in Sweden. “It's all a matter of conditions. If we have the right conditions, we can take it forward.”
