The number of seats on offer on intercontinental flights from Barcelona El Prat airport is forecast to increase by 13.6%, according to the capital’s Chamber of Commerce.

A report by the Observatory of Air Traffic in Barcelona has highlighted that, after last year’s record figures, “the outlook is very good for the summer season,” that begins in April and ends in October.

The reports optimism is justified by the offer of seats available for the summer, as predicted by airlines, which has increased by two million, 5% more than the same period in 2017. The number of spaces on offer for intercontinental flights is predicted to increase by 580,000, nearly 14% more than last year.

The company with the biggest increase in terms of intercontinental spaces on flights is Norwegian, with 250,000 seats more, three times more than last season, and nearly half the overall total across all airlines.

New routes

This summer, Barcelona airport will open new direct routes to Mexico and Tashkent, as well as more routes to Boston, Beijing and Seoul. Also, 12 routes will increase their weekly frequency and 9 their capacity, with a change of aircraft models.
