Number of pensions grows by 1.7% in Catalonia

The number of pensions has grown in Catalonia by 1.7% in comparison with August of last year. The pension statistics were published this Tuesday by the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Immigration.

Barcelona (ACN).- According to data published by the Spanish Social Security Institute of the Ministry of Employment and Immigration, this August 1,554,364 people filed for pensions in Catalonia, an amount 1.7% higher than August of last year. The average pension in Catalonia is 806.4 euros, growing 3.4% from August of last year. In the entire Spanish state, the number of contribution based pensions arrived at 8,690,240, resulting in an annual increase of 1.6%. More than half of the pensions are for retirement (5,153,538), followed by widowhood (2,292,585), permanent disability (936,500), orphanhood (269,904) and family members (37,173).


The monthly payroll for social security contribution based pensions was recorded at 6,790 million euros as of the 1st of August, representing a 5% rise from the same period of last year. The data was published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration.

The average retirement pension is 886.40 euros throughout the state, 3.5% higher than last year. The average pension of the system, taking into account diverse types of pensions, is 781.34 euros a month, a 3.4% annual rise.
