L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (ACN).- Japanese multinational Olympus, specialized in optics and reprography, has unveiled its new headquarters for Spain and Portugal, aimed at becoming its main centre for Southern Europe. The new facilities are located in the business district of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, a city literally attached to Barcelona, between the Catalan capital and El Prat Airport. The new offices occupy 2,500 square meters in a building on the Europa Square, close to the Fira de Barcelona. It will welcome 30 employees of the divisions of Consumer Product, Microscopy, Industry, and Medical Systems. Merging the headquarters for Spain and Portugal constitutes a step forward to gain weight on the Southern Europe market, said Olympus Iberia's CEO.

Miquel Ángel Garcia, CEO of Olympus Iberia, stressed the strategic location of the new headquarters, near Barcelona El Prat Airport and the city centre, which enables a close proximity with customers. He added that Catalonia and especially Barcelona were an important gateway entrance to Southern Europe markets, where Olympus Iberia operates. “This will certainly be the basis of the company for future growth”, stated Garcia.

The company has transferred to the new offices its Consumer Product division, dedicated to manufacturing and selling digital cameras and audio recorders; its Microscopy Division, a world leader in digital optics technologies used in clinical and research centres, as well as its Industry and Medical Systems divisions, the latter benefiting from the company’s latest technologies to serve the needs of the scientific community, both for diagnostics and therapeutic uses. The new Barcelona offices of Olympus, a Japanese multinational which employs 32,000 workers worldwide, will also dispose of a showroom so customers can discover, test, and manipulate the latest technologies launched by the company.

The new Olympus Iberia was unveiled during a public ceremony on Wednesday, attended by the Catalan Government’s Vice President, Joana Ortega, and by the Mayor of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Núria Marín, among other political and business representatives.
