The industrial automation sector is forecast to increase its turnover by 6% during 2018, generating around 2,000 new jobs, according to the president of the Automotive Industry Cluster of Catalonia (CIAC).

Revolutionizing industry

“It’s an industrial revolution from the point of view that all manufacturers are investigating new concepts of automobiles that have never been used before,” Valls explained.

Valls pointed out that professional training related to automated industry must be improved as there are “difficulties in finding key positions” related to the “technological change” that the sector is experiencing.

"It is necessary for syllabuses to be adapted to the new skills and tasks required in the automotive industry," he explained. "Technological change will bring changes to our industries, which will have to adapt to these new times," he added.

Car production

With regard to car manufacturing in Spain as a whole, Valls stated that 2.8 million were created in 2017. He said that the cars in the Spain are the "oldest in Europe," as people change their vehicle "every 12 years." He called on adminsitrations "to do something" in order to create incentives for people to buy new cars "more quickly."
